A FOND FAREWELL TO KEVIN SIMMS Folks, It's with bitter-sweet emotion that we bid adieu to our longtime friend and road manager, Kevin Simms. Kevin has accepted a position with Miranda Lambert's organization. This has all come along very suddenly and last weekend was Kevin's last run with us. If you saw the show at the Back Porch in Port Aransas, you know he went out with a bang! Kevin has been an integral part of the band for many years and he will be sorely missed but we know that his job with one of the top five nationally touring acts out of Nashville is a good thing for him. We wish Kevin and his new fiancée, Alyssa, all the best and look forward to hearing from Kevin as he visits new and exciting places with his new job. We'll miss you, Kevin and thanks for all your work. Max, Jeff, Jason and Bryce. P.S. We are actively seeking a full time road manager type to fill Kevin's position. MEET JASON STEINSULTZ** Jason Dean Steinsultz started his music career at the tender age of 16 playing drums in his home town of Fort Worth, TX. Being influenced at an early age by such musical legends as Elvis Presley and Paul Simon, Jason was hooked on the raw sounds of roots rockabilly and songwriting classics. After playing drums in many rockabilly bands, Jason knew he wanted to pursue other instruments in his career. Therefore, he began to learn to play the guitar and it was an eye-opening experience for him. He began to be influenced by other guitar players such as Steve Cropper, Brian Setzer, Jerry Reed and Dave Alvin. With these influences, Jason and his brother, Devin Leigh, started a rockabilly band dubbed Hillbilly Café. During this time, Jason began to sing harmonies with his brother and he soon realized that he had an ear for singing with others. He and his brother's harmonies have been compared by some to the great Everly Brothers. Throughout their tenure, Hillbilly Café won a slew of awards, including Band of the Year/'97 Fort Worth Weekly, Best Rock Band/'98 Fort Worth Weekly, Best Country Band/'98 Fort Worth Weekly, Reader's Choice Award for Best of the West-o-plex/'98 Fort Worth Weekly and a nomination for Best Country Band/'99 Dallas Observer. Hillbilly Café also made their way to Austin, Texas two times to play at the legendary music festival, South by Southwest. In 2002, Jason began to front his own band called The Jodeans. This was a new project that allowed Jason to be the singer and songwriter for the first time. The next thing he knew, Jason's brother needed a bass player for his new project, The Devin Leigh Band. Jason offered his services, and made his musical debut on the bass guitar. After the first note, Jason was hooked. He knew that playing the bass was where he was supposed to be. He dropped all of his projects and began spending all of his time concentrating on bass. Whether he was playing the upright or the electric, Jason saw his new endeavor as a welcome challenge, and every day became more and more convinced that he made the right decision to become a career bass player. Some say that Jason's roots style of playing is attributed to a long career as a drummer and guitarist. Since his decision to play bass, Jason has become heavily influenced by Rick Danko and The Band, Duck Dunn, Lee Rocker and, of course, Aden Bubeck. Jason has played bass with many singers and songwriters including The Devin Leigh Band, Becca Dalrymple, Gary Kyle, Jerry Elmore, Michael Padgett Band and Blacktop Gypsy and Max Stalling. Throughout his career, no matter the genre of music, the style of the band or the instrument he was playing, Jason's stage presence is a memorable one. Watching Jason play, anyone can tell that he sincerely loves playing music and performing on stage. Full of energy and movement, with a smile on his face, he is openly expressing the music that he is playing, and the crowd responds to his energetic style. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Jason was raised in a small suburb called, North Richland Hills. Jason was always interested in sports. Attending school at Richland High School, sports where an important part of his life. Excelling in many sports, he mostly played football all through high school. Here he received many awards, including all district tight end. Once he graduated, he attended Navarro College in Corsicana, TX. Here he continued his love of football for one more year. After college, Jason moved back to Fort Worth. Here he met his wife Alison in the year 2000. They were married in 2006. Still living in Fort Worth, Jason has had lots of fun in life. Not knowing his future, Jason plans to continue to play music for life.
